| How to get there | From the south you start in Bórmio (1200m) (which is also the start for the famous Passo dello Stelvio and Passo di Gávia). This side is of moderate difficulty. You could possibly be starting higher up at Arnoga (1855m), if you have visited the spectacular gravel road to Lago di San Giacomo and the Passo Torre di Fračle (1941m), as there is a short-cut road that is asphalted to Arnoga (1881m (fr. 1862m)). From the north you start at Trepalle (2023m) just after Passo d’Eira (2210m) on the way from Livigno (1818m), which is very easy. | |
| Other comments | It is a bit nice on the way up from Bórmio, but it is not one of the nicer passes in the area. There could also be a lot of traffic. Here you enter the tax free area of Livigno. The photo is taken at the nearby Passo d’Eira. Typically one travels via the Fórcola di Livigno (2315m) when passing over this pass as the only alternative is the Livigno tunnel to Switzerland. It is no longer allowed to go bicycling to/from Livigno through the tunnel as someone has deemed it too dangerous and thus you will have to either pay a fee for the bus or a higher fee as penalty for breaking the regulation. (20 euro in my case, even when I met no car in the tunnel. I had just missed the half-hourly bus and hoped they would not charge me a fee – I do not approve of that regulation. No idea what the fee might be outside bus hours … .) [IT-SO-2208, BIG 695] |
