How to get there This is a little known climb from Ponte Marmora (944m) in Valle Máira, Piemonte. One first climbs up to Canosio (1242m) and from here it is mostly very steep (with some almost flat sections) to the pass. Especially the last stretch to just before the pass is very steep. The road was reportedly asphalted in the higher regions in 2003. There are some drainage gullies and occasional cow dung. It is a lonely road but there are a few tourists going up to Rifugio Gardetta and locals going between their cattle and farms. If you have travelled over Colle d’Esischie (2366m), you would start the climb below Vernetti (1192m).
Other comments This pass could be combined with Colle Cologna; Colle Margherina; Colle della Bandia on the gravel road that continues to Colle di Valcavera (2416m) if the weather would permit it. This gravel road might be a bit too difficult in parts for someone with a road bike. I had planned to try it out in 2006, but the weather was not good enough. It is very nice at the top of this pass! From just after Canosio (1270m), you could take a nice road up to Colletto di Canosio (1651m), but the gravel road on the other side of this pass is likely to bad for a road bike, but there are great views here.
