How to get there

This is probably the easiest Alps pass above 2000 metres height (as a separate climb from other passes). If you come here over the Forcola di Livigno/Fuorcla da Livign/Passo Forcola/La Fórcola (2314m) you start the climb before reaching Livigno at 1850m. You could alternatively start in Livigno centre (1818m).

The southern climb invloves a climb over Passo di Foscagno/Pass da Fus-chagn (2289m), which is 6.9 km away with a descent to Trepalle (2023m) before the final climb. The start is down in Bormio (1200m) (which could also be the start for climbing the famous Passo dello Stelvio & Passo di Gavia). This side is moderately difficult. You could also start at the southern end of Bormio and climb via Le Motte (1425m). If coming down from the Stelvio pass, the shortest way goes via Ponte di Premadio (1237m).

You could possibly be starting higher up at Arnoga (1878m), if you have visited the spectacular (until recently gravel) road to Lago di San Giacomo and the Passo Torre di Fraele/La Bocchetta (1938m), as there is a short-cut road that is partly asphalted to Arnoga (fr. 1861m).

Other comments The views over the mountains surrounding Livigno are quite nice. The traffic is somewhat heavy, but bearable. Services of all kinds are available down in Livigno. Typically one travels via the Forcola di Livigno when passing over this pass as the only alternative is the Livigno tunnel from Switzerland. It is no longer allowed to cycle to/from Livigno through the tunnel as someone has deemed it too dangerous and thus you will either have to pay a fee for the bus or a higher fee as penalty for breaking the regulation. (20 euro in my case, even when I met no car in the tunnel. I had just missed the half-hourly bus and hoped they would not charge me a fee – I do not approve of that regulation. No idea what the fee might be outside bus hours … .)
